Author Talk: Market Memories Cookbook with Ann M. Evans & Georgeanne Brennan (Davis) In-Person
The cookbook, which has 92 recipes, arranged by season, also tells the story of how the county’s iconic market evolved as the brainchild of four young Davis people, including co-author Ann M. Evans, with a few farmers selling fruits and vegetables from the back of their pick-ups, to one of the most recognized farmers market in the United States.
The story is told through personal essays by the co-founders and others with seminal involvement, 32 anecdotal quotes from vendors, shoppers, and elected officials, and a timeline chronicling market highlights over 50 years, as well as an in- memoriam page, commemorating the market vendors who are deceased.
The book is illustrated by Ann and Georgeanne as well, with beautiful pen and ink and watercolor washes for fruit and vegetables and flowers in all the seasons.
