Mga Kapatid Vintage Dance Troupe - Traditional Philippine Dance In-Person
UCD Mga Kapatid Vintage Dance Troupe will perform a restaging of “Pandanggo Sa Ilaw” and host an interactive workshop for the community to learn and try out some moves! Pandanggo Sa Ilaw, directly translated to “Dance of Lights, is an iconic Philippine folk dance that originated in Mindoro. It evolved among upper and local classes in the early 18th century as it drew inspiration from the Spanish Fandango. Performers delicately balance candles on their head and hands to imitate fireflies. This waltz is performed in various celebrations like fiestas or religious rituals around the country.
